Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020

The UN Road Safety Collaboration has developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 with input from many partners through an extensive consultation process through meetings and the Internet. The Plan provides an overall framework for activities which may take place in the context of the Decade. The categories or “pillars” of activities are: building road safety management capacity; improving the safety of road infrastructure and broader transport networks; further developing the safety of vehicles; enhancing the behaviour of road users; and improving post-crash care. Indicators have been developed to measure progress in each of these areas. Governments, international agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector and other stakeholders are invited to make use of the Plan as a guiding document for the events and activities they will support as part of the Decade.

OPEN DAYS 2011

Since 2003, the OPEN DAYS has become an annual key event at which cities and regions showcase their capacity for creating growth and jobs, implementing European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local level for good European governance. Conceived and developed by the EU Committee of the Regions and the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional Policy, this communication and networking platform regularly enlists loyal support from thousands of local, regional, national and European decision-makers and experts, whose achievements have been manifold in the areas of economic success and social integration, co-operation between regions, fruitful public-private partnerships at local level, and with research centres and universities.

OPEN DAYS 2011 will consist of about 100 sessions –  workshops and debates – exhibitions and networking opportunities for the about 6,000 participants coming to Brussels.
